Ferrari 308 & 328 Chassis Decoder
The F106 type family supplies useful body and generation information: F106AB for 308 GTB, F106AS for GTS, Q suffixes for Quattrovalvole, and R types for 328.
Decode from this page
This page explains 308 / 328, but the input accepts every PetrolJunky-supported identifier.
What this identifier can tell you
F106 type codes separate major 308 and 328 families
A carbureted 308 GTB can carry the F106AB type while the open GTS uses F106AS. Quattrovalvole cars add Q-specific type notation, and the later 328 family uses R variants. PetrolJunky normalizes spaces, slashes and asterisks so an entry such as F106 AB/Q *42809* can be evaluated directly.
Serial boundaries are intentionally conservative
The broad F106AB and F106AS type families can intersect serial periods used by injected GTBi/GTSi cars. Instead of labeling every number in the larger theoretical range as carbureted, PetrolJunky ends its supported carbureted blocks before the reviewed overlap. QV and 328 results require their more specific type codes.
Modern Ferrari VINs stay separate
Later Ferraris with standard 17-character ZFF VINs are routed to NHTSA. The classic type decoder exists to fill the earlier identification gap, not to replace standardized modern VIN data.
