Tipo plus serial-number decoding

Classic Ferrari VIN & Chassis Decoder

Ferrari is intentionally handled more conservatively than many marques. Historic Ferrari serial numbers can overlap model eras and do not always encode the model by themselves, so PetrolJunky uses the factory Tipo/type code plus serial when that combination is documented.

What this decoder page is designed to answer.

Ferrari needs a more conservative decoder than most marques

Historic Ferrari serial numbers are famous among collectors, but the serial alone does not always identify a unique model family. PetrolJunky therefore supports selected classic Ferraris from the documented factory Tipo/type code plus serial combination instead of matching any plausible five-digit number to an expensive car.

Current reviewed families

The first Ferrari data set covers Dino 246 L/M/E type families, the Tipo 605 Daytona family, F101 AC 100 365 GTC/4, carbureted F106AB/F106AS 308s, Quattrovalvole-specific F106ABQ/F106ASQ types and F106ABR/F106ASR 328 families. Standard 17-character ZFF VINs remain NHTSA-first.

Intentional gaps are better than wrong results

Where injection-era 308 serial space can overlap a broad base type, PetrolJunky stops the supported carbureted range before the ambiguity rather than forcing a GTBi/GTSi answer. Additional Ferrari types can be added as equally strong source data is reviewed.
